Why is this important?
This is important because our residents deserve a great pool that is equal to the greatness of our community!
Who owns the pool?
The Nittany Valley Joint Recreation Authority (NVJRA) owns the pool and grounds.
Who makes up the NVJRA?
The NVJRA has four member municipalities; Bellefonte Borough, Benner Township, Spring Township, and Walker Township. Each appoints up to two representatives to the board.
Who operates the pool?
The NVJRA has a management agreement with the YMCA to manage the pool during the swimming season.
Will there be a swimming season in ‘23?
There are many steps in the process, but the NVJRA and the non-profit are working tirelessly with the goal of having a partial swimming season in 2023.
How will this be made to last?
Longevity is a key aspect of the work being performed. All components will be examined and the highest quality will be used. Best practices for operating and maintaining will be used and standard operating procedures will be followed.
Are you waiting for all the grants to be secured?
No. The project is of such importance to the community that the project will be proceeding even if all the components cannot be implemented in the first or second construction phases.
How will the pool be funded when it’s operational?
The goal is to make the pool a self-sustaining operation paid for through visits, membership, and rentals.
How will long-term maintenance be funded?
Another goal is to fund depreciation annually so future generations can focus on how to make the facility better versus how to keep it running.
